This material has low abrasion resistance. It rates as a 1 – 3 on the Mohs scale. Light scratching will occur with exposure to sand and other abrasives. The finish will patina or dull over time as a result of this scratching. Always use a cutting board for countertop applications and walk-off mats at entrances in flooring applications.

This material has a high absorption rate. It is crucial to seal the surface prior to use to protect against staining. Spills should be wiped up immediately, as oil and highly-pigmented liquids can quickly penetrate and stain the stone. In cases of staining, a poultice may be required to remove deep-set marks.
Moderate
This material has moderate acid sensitivity. Acid etching may be noticeable, though less visible on lighter-colored stones and honed finishes. Over time, the surface will develop a natural patina. If acid resistance is important for your project, consider selecting a material with lower sensitivity.
Not recommended

To maintain the beauty of your stone surfaces, follow these guidelines for cleaning and care:
- Cleaning: Regular maintenance involves washing with clean, potable water and a neutral (pH-7) cleaner. Use “soapless” cleaners to minimize streaking and filming. Mild, phosphate-free dish soaps are acceptable if thoroughly rinsed. Wet the surface with clean, hot (not boiling) water, then wash with the cleaner solution, following the manufacturer’s instructions. For vertical surfaces, clean from bottom to top.
- Rinsing: Rinse thoroughly with clean, potable water to remove all soap residues. Change the rinse water frequently to avoid residue buildup and grout joint accumulation.
- Drying: Dry the surface with a soft cloth or cotton-flannel towel. For a streak-free finish, you may use chamois skin instead.
