ABRASION RESISTANCE SCALE

LOW

This material has low abrasion resistance. It rates as a 1 – 3 on the Mohs scale. Light scratching will occur with exposure to sand and other abrasives. The finish will patina or dull over time as a result of this scratching. Always use a cutting board for countertop applications and walk-off mats at entrances in flooring applications.

ACID SENSITIVITY

LOW

This material is moderately sensitive to acids. Generally, acid etching will be less visible on lighter stones and honed surfaces. The finish will patina over time. If acid etching is a concern, select a minimally sensitive material.

ABSORPTION SCALE

MODERATE

This material has a low to moderate absorption rate. Always seal this material prior to use. To reduce the appearance of stains, always wipe up spills immediately. Oil and highly-pigmented liquids can penetrate and stain the stone and may need poultice to remove the stain.

CARE AND
MAINTENANCE

MAINTENTACE: MEDIUM

HIGH CLEANING:

Normal maintenance of a polished surface involves only periodic washing with clean, potable
water and neutral (pH -7) cleaners.

“Soapless” cleaners are preferred because they minimize streaking and filming. However,
mild phosphate- free, biodegradable liquid dish – soaps, soapflakes or powders which
contain no aromatics are acceptable if rinsing is thorough. Stone surfaces should be first
wetted with clean, hot (not boiling) water. Then, using the cleaner solution (following manufacturer’s
directions) wash in small overlapping sweeps, from bottom – up if vertical surface.
Rinse thoroughly with clean, potable water to remove all traces of soap or cleaner solution.
Change the water in the rinse pail frequently, any dirt in the water will leave residue and
accumulate in the grout joints. Dry with soft cloth or cotton – flannel, and allow to thoroughly
air – dry. Chamois skin may be used in lieu of cotton cloth in this process

MARBLE SEALERS

Natural stone surfaces must be sealed to prevent or minimize staining. Leaving natural stone untreated may greatly hinder the complete removal of stains in the future.

The following suggestions are for impregnating the stone and will allow the stone to breathe. Allow new installations to cure for 72 hours prior to applying sealer. As with cleaner agents, the sealant should be applied to a non – conspicuous area of the stone for testing 24 hours prior to overall application.

Application should absolutely be carried out by a professional installer or stone expert and procedure for application should come directly from the manufacturer of the sealer.
Bathroom & Kitchen stones have been sealed with Aqua Mix Sealer’s Choice Gold.

Industry experts recommend periodic testing of sealed surfaces. Apply a few drops of water on the surface if it soaks in, an additional application of sealer will be necessary to keep sealer at peak performance.
